REV. ALEXANDER SALMON'S INDUCTION TO ALDERNEY CHURCH 1864 |
---|
At a meeting of the Presbytery of London, held on the 8th of March last, the Rev. Mr. Wright, of Southampton, brought up a memorial from the members and adherents of the congregation at Alderney, Channel Islands, requesting the Presbytery to appoint the Rev. Alexander Salmon to be their minister. Mr. Wright gave information regarding the congregation and supported the prayer of the memorial. After conversation the Presbytery resolved to regard the memorial as containing all the elements of a call and they sustained it accordingly.
It was then put into Mr. Salmon's hands for acceptance, and Mr. Salmon intimated acceptance of it. His expression of readiness to take pastoral charge of the Alderney congregation was received with applause. The Presbytery thereupon resolved that Mr. Salmon's induction take place that day.
At a subsequent stage of the proceedings, Mr. Ballantine, who had taken the chair pro tempore, put the usual questions to Mr. Salmon. Satisfactory answers having been given, and prayer offered, Mr. Salmon was formally admitted minister of the church and congregation at Alderney, received the right hand of fellowship from the moderator and members, subscribed the formula, and had his name added to the roll of the Presbytery. - Empire.
